The Thrill Of Victory And The Agony Of Defeat

On the thrill of victory side, a great thing that happened was that my daughter Victoria got accepted into the Masters program at the University of Pennsylvania law school! Yay! It’s one of the top law schools in the country.

On the agony of defeat side, after spending a great deal of time working on the JW Marriott Water Street drawing I concluded that I’d have to start all over again. I’d been using a portable T-Square that wasn’t accurate enough. So, I’ve bought what may be the most expensive T-Square available and am about to start all over.

We moved my Aunt Betty Tribble into a new place. She’ll be living at Lake Seminole Square now as we get ready to sell the house she’s been in. The new place is absolutely gorgeous and other people take care of everything and the food is outstanding!

I’ve been a Star Trek fan for an extremely long time and I recently got a great gift from my cousins Marc & Lisa Jacobson. They got tickets for all of us to a special event at the Straz Center in Tampa. They played the Star Trek Wrath Of Khan movie on the big screen and it was followed by an hour and a half talk by William Shatner (Captain Kirk) who had flown in for the event. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts I’ve ever gotten!

To close out November Nancy and I went up to Asheville for several days. We had a wonderful time up in the mountains of North Carolina. In addition to Asheville we visited the nearby towns of Black Mountain, Waynesville, and Hendersonville. If you get the chance to go it’s a beautiful area to spend some time…especially if you want to escape Florida’s summer heat.

Our Reflection Project Is The Title Sponsor For St. Petersburg's Shine Mural Festival

I’m proud and delighted to report that our Reflection luxury condo project is the Title Sponsor for St. Pete’s Shine mural festival. This was the 9th year for Shine and it attracts some of the world’s best mural artists from as far away as Australia. Shine was a huge success this year and we’ve decided to be the Title Sponsor for the upcoming 10th year of the festival, and we’re going to have a huge mural on the Reflection condo itself!

Philadelphia Visit & Reflection Topping Out

Nancy & I flew up to Philadelphia to visit Victoria and had a great time. The art part of our visit was the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Words fail…it was a rather humbling experience, especially since my Water Street drawing is giving me trouble. The museum has 200 galleries that include Cezanne, Picasso, Renoir, Rubens, and Van Gogh among countless other masters. The facility itself is larger than life, even the elevators!

Some of you know that my day job is with KW Commercial. Our KW Developer Services division has been helping a local developer, the Hemmer Group, with a luxury condo project in downtown St. Pete. We had the topping out of the 18 story project and it’s so exciting seeing the project come to life.

Work On JW Marriott Water Street Begins, But Distracted By New Toy

I’ve started work on the JW Marriott Water Street drawing. It has more difficulties than I originally anticipated but I’m excited by the challenge. However, I encountered a beautiful distraction. I’ve been pondering a new car for several months and I just acquired a beautiful new toy in my favorite color. In the spirit of the occasion I think I’ll also need to get a fresh pair of sunglasses!

Drawings Of The Future?

While it’s not something I generally mention on Resort Renderings, I flew out to Texas in May for the National Space Society’s annual International Space Development Conference. For those of you interested in the future, here’s a quick peek at few upcoming attractions.

More Potential Resorts For The Next Drawing

I’m still searching for the next resort to draw and I’ve added three more to the list. The Four Seasons at the Surf Club, The Setai Miami Beach, and Little Palm Island Resort & Spa. Hopefully one will inspire me soon.

Decisions, Decisions...What To Draw Next?

I'm trying to pick out the subject for my next drawing. I'm considering the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street, The Vinoy Renaissance St. Pete, and the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach.

I Bought An Art Tent

I’ve had some of my drawings in juried art shows, but they were all indoor venues. I plan to participate in some outdoor shows and markets toward the end of the year. Here are a couple of pics of the art tent.

Nancy & I Took An MSC Cruise in January

Well, I didn’t do a lick of drawing in January but we had a wonderful time on the MSC Meraviglia. We sailed out of Port Canaveral, a very convenient port only about 2 hours away from the Tampa Bay area.

JW Marriott Bonnet Creek Drawing Update

I hope all of you had a happy Thanksgiving holiday with your families. While things were a bit delayed by the holiday, the Marriott drawing is coming along. I’m particularly pleased with the 3D effect of the windows on the right side. Drop by anytime and visit us at ResortRenderings.com.

JW Marriott Drawing Starting To Come To Life

After all the careful measurements and positioning each element in the right spot, now I finally get to start bringing the drawing to life by shading each item appropriately. It’s alway nice to start on the most fun part of the process.

We Weathered Hurricane Ian & The Drawing Goes On!

We evacuated to Tampa for Hurricane Ian and I had extra time to draw. The JW Marriot drawing is starting to take shape. We weathered the storm pretty well except for a little roof damage.

Next Drawing: Sapphire Falls or JW Marriott Bonnett Creek

Nancy & I went over to Orlando for the weekend and I looked at a couple of hotels that I thought might make interesting subjects. The Caribe Royale, Sapphire Falls, and the JW Marriott Bonnet Creek. I found Sapphire Falls and the Marriott more interesting. I’m trying to decide which view I’d enjoy drawing most. If you have any feedback please let me know.

Intercontinental Miami Complete (Finally)

At long last the Intercontinental Miami drawing is finished. I’ll be adding another web page to the site soon that will have some pics and info about the hotel. I’m considering Universal’s Sapphire Falls and the JW Marriott Bonet Creek for my next drawing.

Intercontinental Miami Drawing About 90% Complete

The Intercontinental Miami drawing is about 90% done. I’m going to Orlando to look at Caribe Royale, JW Marriott Bonnet Creek, Sapphire Falls & Waldorf Astoria. Hopefully one will strike my fancy.

Intercontinental Miami Drawing About 80% Done

The Intercontinental Miami drawing is now in the home stretch. I’m planning to go over to Orlando in a couple of weeks to find a new hotel to start working on. Universal Orlando has built a few new ones in the past few years. If you have a suggestion please let me know.

Intercontinental Miami Coming Along Nicely

The Intercontinental Miami drawing is coming along well. I hope to be able to complete it in the next couple of weeks. I’ve never tried to draw a sculpture before and I continue to tinker with the that part of the drawing. I’ll try to touch base next week with another update.
