Phase Two Of The Intercontinental Miami Drawing Is Starting To Take Shape

Once I’ve figured out the positioning of the drawing’s major elements, converting what my wife calls the cartoon into a drawing begins. While every drawing is unique, this stage usually takes about six weeks. I’ve learned to work staring in the upper left corner and gradually moving toward the bottom right corner. I’m right handed and that works much better.

Did Some Drawing On Our Cruise, But Alaska Was Stunning

Nancy, Victoria & I had a wonderful time on the Majestic Princess up in Alaska. I drew some of the days on a big table I commandeered in the Vines wine bar. However, I was somewhat distracted by some of the most stunning scenery I’ve ever seen up in Alaska. One day I even saw a killer whale. Anyhow, not enough progress on the drawing to share today…how about a jaw dropping picture of Alaska? Go if you can!

Phase One Of Intercontinental Miami Drawing

It’s taken a month or so, but the layout of the drawing of the Intercontinental Miami is done…now comes the hard part! Hopefully there will be some progress nest week during the Alaska cruise. Depending on internet access aboard, there may be an update next week of the drawing. Here’s where the drawing stands now.

The Art World Is Back In Business, So I'm Picking Up My Pencil

Well, the pandemic is still with us, but most of us are now vaccinated and/or boosted and the art world is active again. Art shows are running and most art galleries are open. I thought I’d join the resurgence so I’m about to start a new drawing. My new subject is the Intercontinental Miami. I’m going to be depicting the interior.

U.S. Finally Reaches Vaccination Rate of 65%

It’s certainly taken us a long time to reach a minimally acceptable vaccination rate in the U.S. I’d grade our performance as a D, but at least we’ve got a passing score. Life feels like it’s returning to something like normal and the art world has begun to get active again. Art shows are in operation and most galleries seem to be open again. There’s a sense of optimism in the air that really seemed absent in 2020 & 2021. I’ve finally picked up my pencil again and I’m working on a new drawing. More on that later.

While U.S. Copes With Delta Variant, Omicron Now Detected In 19 States

As if “regular” Covid-19 wasn’t enough, the variants are making the situation even more complex. Each has somewhat different characteristics. As our health care systems are heavily engaged with Delta patients, the new Omicron will complicate maters further. The silver lining of the situation is that the Covid vaccines are effective against the variants as well. However, the vaccines are not effective unless you get them…

1 In Every 500 US Residents Have Died Of Covid-19

It’s been about 9 months since the FDA authorized vaccines to protect us against the pandemic we’ve been fighting. Despite good supplies of the vaccines and a robust distribution network where people can get their shots, our vaccination rate isn’t great. Our scientists invented the vaccine, but several other nations have higher vaccinations rates than we do. It’s past time to get with the program and get your shot. Do it for yourself, do it for the economy, do it for the art world…just do it!

Burning Man 2021 Cancelled For Second Year In A Row

One of the most famous art events in the U.S., Burning Man, has been cancelled for 2021 despite it’s being an outdoor event. While the art world is showing some signs of awakening, we obviously have a long way to go. I’ve been suffering from art show withdrawal. It’s starting to look like a full normalization of the art world won’t happen until 2022.

U.S. Passes 500,000 Covid Deaths

Despite the development of a vaccine by our scientists in record time, the pandemic continues to kill our citizens, harm our economy, and disrupt global supply chains. Social distancing, mask wearing, and the vaccines are the best ways to resolve the chaos and casualties caused by the pandemic. Please don’t make this political. Take the proper steps to protect yourself, your families, and your neighbors!

Pfizer & Moderna Covid Vaccines Approved For Use By FDA

At last there is a vaccine that can help protect you and your family from the Covid-19 pandemic. Pfizer & Moderna vaccines have been approved by the FDA and are being distributed now. Front line medical workers and senior citizens will be getting the first doses. They plan to produce as much as they can as fast as they can. Monitor the situation and get vaccinated as soon as you’re eligible. This is the best way for us to beat the pandemic and eventually eliminate the need for masks. Hopefully the art world will come alive in 2021!

Global Covid-19 Deaths Surpass 1 Million

It’s amazing that a disease we’d never heard of before can have already killed over a million people around the world. It’s also amazing that wearing a mask to protect yourself and other has somehow become a political statement of some kind. Wearing a mask shouldn’t be more political than wearing a seatbelt. The scientists are working hard on a vaccine, in the meantime please wear a mask when appropriate!

U.S. Coronavirus Deaths Pass 100,000 Mark In Under 4 Months

Like most of us I had no idea how bad the Covid-19 epidemic would get. Already over 100,000 Americans have died. The experts say that social distancing and wearing a mask are the best ways to protect ourselves at this point. While nothing feels safe right now, these steps will reduce your risk of catching this thing.

US Declares Covid-19 A National Emergency

They say timing is everything. I guess that’s why after years of drawing I launched a website with my work right before the Covid-19 epidemic hit. Across the country art shows are being cancelled and art galleries have temporarily closed. I’ll be focusing on my day job in commercial real estate during this crisis. Take care of yourselves…

Art Center Manatee Members Show

As I mentioned in a previous post, I submitted a couple of my drawings to the Art Center Manatee Members Show. Two of my drawings were accepted for the show by the Juror (Animal Kingdom Lodge & Portofino Bay). The show runs from January 14th through February 7th. There was a nice turnout for the opening reception.
